The Unwavering Support for Israel: A Shared Heritage Between Jews and Christians

Updated: Oct 12, 2024

Well, friends! It's been quite awhile since I've posted on here.

After an unexpected hiatus, I am here writing again. It's been an eventful 3 months, and I could write pages on how God has been moving and changing my life. However, what's brought me to break my 'hiatus' is something far more important than me. There's no doubt in my mind that at some point God will put the right words on my heart to share what He's been bring to light in my life -- but for now my heart is tuned to my friends halfway across the world.

Below are just a few of my thoughts concerning the war on Israel and the important role Christian's play in Israel's history.

Words seem to elude me during this time. Words don’t seem to match the emotion, or depth of the situation our world faces. But I will say this. Our support of Israel is not negotiable.

Now is not the time to become complacent.

I believe the reason it’s so hard to place words around this war is because my mind can’t fully grasp it. Why Israel? Why are people so hell-bent on annihilating this people group? Century after century Jewish people have had a target on their back. A small and ancient country seems to be such a threat to the rest of the world. Yet, the answer is so simple — they are God’s chosen people.

In Zachariah 2:8 God says that Israel is the apple of his eye. That phrase means to cherish above all others.

Whether you are a believer or not, we have to realize that these attacks on Jews and Israelis comes from pure hatred and evil that is beyond rational and human understanding. This is a type of wickedness placed on the heart of man; that in all actuality is an attack on God’s authority. These are not just political fights, but spiritual battles.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” - Ephesians 6:12

What God loves, man hates. This is one of the most clear examples of Satan actively infiltrating the minds, hearts, and souls of world around us- to create hatred and violence against God’s prized possession.

We cannot become complacent, and find ourselves in a place of mediocrity when it comes to protecting Israel.

The inheritance of Israel’s is ours too if we accept the blessings and gifts God so readily gives us.

Genesis 12:3 says “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (This verse is in reference to Israel)

Even — or especially — in the midst of war, division, and terror we can clearly draw a line back to the gospel story.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and David is the same God that rules over the earth today. The God of the Jew’s is the God of the Christians because of the new law we live under.

God’s own son — Jesus— came to this earth as fully God and fully man, lived a blameless life and because of his perfection he bore every one of humanity’s transgressions that caused him to die. Yet, on the 3rd day, after his death, he rose from the dead and proved that there is eternal life only through his perfect blood. Because of this new law, gentiles have been grafted into the original olive branch (Romans 11:11-24). We are apart of Israel’s blessing.

The promises given to Israel are the same for the rest of the world. And in those promises we see that God has made a covenant with Israel saying they will not be wiped away.

“And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob.”” - Romans 11:26

As Christians, we know where the victory lies. There has already been victory over death. We know how the story ends.

But just because we have this knowledge — that there is ultimate victory — we can’t become numb to the evil of the world. We still have responsibilities, and work to do while still on earth. And as of right now, we must take a stand for Israel. We must fight for them.

As Christian’s, this is just as much our heritage as Israel’s. This is our God, our people by adoption, and our promise.

Therefore, the support and solidarity of Israel is not negotiable. Pray and serve Israel fervently.
